The Pastor Barbara Ward Farmer is a distinguished person of religion as well as an important singer.

(quote) Evangelist Barbara Ward Farmer
Evangelist Barbara Ward Farmer was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ward, Sr. In 1950 at the Temple University Hospital. She has two brothers and three sisters. Their names are Edward Ward, Jt., Brenda Stallworth, Lorraine White, Carole Allen, and Byron Ward. She is very devoted to her husband/bussiness manager, Lawrence Farmer and their children - Larita, Bentia, Sherita, and Little Lawrence III.
Evangelist Farmer began singing at the age of 4, and began singing publicly at the age of 4 1/2. Jimmy Washington discovered her and Bernard Channler was her first organist. At the age of 11, she was known as Little Barbara Ann Ward. She recorded two songs written by Evangelist Rosie Wallace Brown entitled, "What Do You Think About Jesus?", and "I Am By the Grace of God," Jimmy Smith played the organ.
After she recorded, she sang at the Apollo Theater in New York with Madame Gertrude Ward. She had numerous appearances in other music programs. At the age of 6, she sang at the Uptown Theater in Philadelphia. Her parents were offered $ 500.00 a week to let her sing in a night club, but they turned it down.
She attended G.C. Benson Elementary School, H. Audenreid Junior High in South Philadelphia and graduated from both schools with honors. She then attended South Philadelphia High and upon graduation received several grants, scholarships, and other funds to further her education. She did so at West Chester State College where she majored in Spanish. While at the college, she formed the first black Gospel choir.
She is the Pastor of the Faith Tabernacle Church of the Living God. Her mother, Lillian Ward was the former pastor and founder of Faith Tabernacle. (end quote)
From one of the distributed papers for publicity, "1996 PACAF WIDE GOSPEL MUSIC WORKSHOP 3 - 8 JUNE 1996 Yokota Air Force Base, Japan, Theme: 'One Voice United In Praise!' Facilitators: Evangelist Barbara Ward-Farmer and Byron Ward"

It has been almost nine years since the paper for publicity quoted above was distributed. And for fear of being an outdated information, I sought and received confirmation from Church of the Living God on the 11th of April, 2005. I am most grateful to the kindness of House of God, Church of the Living God, Pillar and Ground of the Truth. (April 11, 2005)

The direct transcript of cassette tape recording given below was done by me in order to grasp the gist of her mission work for my master's thesis in 1996. Please note that there may be the English words of which I (a non-native English listener) have failed to make out and that there are the English words which I have left out.

M3 AIFF Pastor Barbara Ward Farmer's Mission Work - If God Be For Us!

"... Go and do the will of God. Hallelujah. Come on and bless Him. Come on and bless Him. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. The Spirit singing ... has left. [Yeah.] I said the Spirit singing has left. [Amen.] [Yes.] Somebody said, "Well you need to take a moment and come on and rehearse." Brother Byron will tell you, we've been to concerts, and had several songs to go, the Lord said, "One song," and that's all she wrote, because the Lord said, "Okay, they have a good picture." [Yeah! shouting a few times.] We can sing, I say, [Hey!] love, because that's a very popular word-love. We need to get you to say that once this, because when the Lord is gone we have work to do. That's it! [a lot of clapping.] ...'ve learned ... to trust ... in Him. However, I do want to [Hey!] I do want to just sing one song. "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31) Because, for all those of you who have accepted the Lord, and those of you, who, as Elvis said, and I have to agree with him, who really know that you need to get strong with God, need a commitment ... I'm here to let you know who can make it ... in Jesus' Name, I really know you can. [a lot of clapping.] When we get finished singing this song (...) Hallelujah ... If God be for us, who can be against us? If God be on our side, If God be for us, who can be against us? If God be on our side, why should we fear? When the enemy comes, comes like a thief (...) in the night, (...) Nay, in all of these things, that's right, We can make it, in Jesus' name ..."
An additional material - Lyrics of some of Gospel songs [English] from among those which were sung
in the Gospel workshop "One Voice United in Praise!" in June, 1996.
