But please note that when I purchased the album at 15:52 on the 25th of May, 2006 (JST), Music Store Search of iTunes in Japan did not return any proper search results by the name "Nancy King" and I had to search either by the name "Fred Hersch" or by the album name "Live At Jazz Standard." "Left Alone" was composed by Mal Waldron and
its lyrics were written by Billie Holiday, though she
has never had a chance to record it. The album
"Left Alone" (Bethlehem, 1960) was Mal Waldron's
tribute to Billie Holiday who passed away in 1959,
on which Jackie McLean played "Left Alone" in
place of her. All Japanese Jazz fans should know
this very famous tune performed by Jackie McLean.
THERE WAS nothing about living on the sidewalks
that I didn't know," Billie Holiday told a writer for
Tan [February, 1953], "I knew how the gin joints looked
on the inside; I had been singing in after-hours joints
-damp, smoky cellars, in the backs of barrooms.

Library of Negro Life and History: The Negro In Music
And Art
[The Association for the Study of Negro Life
and History, 1967], p. 141.)
